Stochastic printing provides several benefits beyond traditional printing techniques, including continuous tone and consistent colors, sharper images, the elimination of screen angle moirés, a broader reproducible color range, and a reduction in the impact of variations and imperfections in the inks and paper used.
Also known as frequency modulation (FM), staccato, or diamond screening, stochastic printing—incorporates tiny (10-, 20-, or 25-micron), dots of equal size in a random pattern. The density of the dot clusters change, varying the color and contrast in an image. There's more color where dots are denser, and less color where dots are less concentrated.
In stochastic printing, color is enhanced by creating more dots, rather than increasing the size of the dots already in play. The result is cleaner, tighter images with better detail in the shadows.
